Kibing ! Programme

No Strings|Kibing video clips are packed with answers to questions commonly asked by young people.This program was created by No Strings in partnership with Trócaire, in a programme supported by Irish Aid. The program comprises three, fifteen minute videos about Gender imbalances, HIV/AIDS as well as Stigma and discrimination. The Kibing! programme is mainstreamed in most of our life skills interventions. However, it is  also used as a stand alone program. 

 

 

 

Why The Kibing !  Programme

 

No Strings characters - Kibing,  Abadab and CrowYoung people might understand how to avoid HIV, but there is often a gap between what they know, and what they actually do. This program seeks to address this gap by helping them develop the right mental attitude and life skills needed to cope when challenges come.

Furthermore, Kibing! films help project clients explore attitudes around stigma, HIV prevention, and gender equality. The video clips are packed with answers to questions commonly asked by young people. The program has been very successful and popular with project clients of all ages. No Strings Videos are translated into the local language (Shona) and always lead to lively discussions about the topic in question.

 
 
Topics in the Kibing! Programme

 

Lesson 1: Will This Be Your Life?

This lesson focuses on peer pressure and how it may lead one to make irresponsilbe choices.  The giving of gifts, another of this film’s messages, is a theme that reveals disturbing truths, with young girls speaking of being ‘tricked’ after receiving even just a packet of sweets or crisps from boys. The session is an opportunity for sharing and reflecting on how Choices affect our lives.

 

Lesson 2: The 24 Hour Challenge

This lesson focuses on Gender inequalities at a personal level. Boys are challenged to play the role of their sisters for a day – if they can manage it . The focus is more on the different pressures boys and girls face that make them vulnerable.  Activities include groups of boys and girls being asked to role play opposite gender roles. At the end of the session, young people are expected to understand and appreciate the pressures faced by the opposite sex.

 

Lesson 3: Do You Know It All

Young people may think that they know a lot about HIV and AIDS. This lesson is geared towards clearing myths around transmission and risk reduction, as well as challenging stigma, and promoting better understanding of why voluntary testing is advocated.
